Theatre department honors graduating students, announces scholarships
LAWRENCE — Outstanding students in the Department of Theatre at the University of Kansas were honored May 7 during the traditional Theatre Stage Supper on the Crafton-Preyer Theatre stage.
Scholarships and awards were presented to 42 students. John Staniunas, associate professor and chair of the Department of Theatre, hosted the event along with Mechele Leon, associate professor of theatre and artistic director of the University Theatre.
Graduating seniors Amy Virginia Buchanan, of Stillwater, Okla., and Spencer Lott, of Lawrence, were named joint recipients of the Kilty Kane, the highest honor bestowed by the University Theatre. The annual award recognizes the student leaving the program who has done the most for the University Theatre.
The Kuhlke Humanitarian Award was shared by Elizabeth Elliott, of Kingwood, Texas, and Caleb Stroman, of College Station, Texas.
The Department of Theatre is part of the School of the Arts within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Funds for most of the scholarships and awards are managed by KU Endowment, the independent, nonprofit organization serving as the official fundraising and fund-management foundation for KU.
