Nationally recognized victim’s rights advocate to give lecture at KU
LAWRENCE — Anne Munch, an attorney with 22 years of experience as a prosecutor and advocate for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking, will give this year’s Jana Mackey Distinguished Lecture at the University of Kansas.
Munch’s lecture, titled “ ‘It’s My Fault:’ A Critical Look at Violence Against Women,” will take place at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, at the Dole Institute of Politics.
In her role as consultant for the U.S. Air Force, Army and Navy, Munch has worked extensively on the development of the Sexual Assault Prevention and Response programs in the military. She also travels extensively across the country speaking on issues related to sexual violence.
The Jana Mackey Distinguished Lecture Series was established in 2009 to commemorate late women’s rights activist and KU law student Jana Lynne Mackey.
Mackey, 25, was found dead in her ex-boyfriend’s home on July 3, 2008. At KU, Mackey was a second-year law student and an active member of the Commission on the Status of Women. Dedicated to promoting equality for women, Mackey volunteered for GaDuGi SafeCenter, as a lobbyist in Kansas for the National Organization of Women and on several political campaigns. She received a bachelor’s degree in women’s studies from KU in 2004.
The lecture is free and open to the public. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. The Dole Institute is located on KU’s west campus, next to the Lied Center.
For more information about the lecture series, visit janamackeyseries.ku.edu. This lecture is part of KU’s Domestic Violence Awareness Week, Oct. 25-29.

Support has also been provided by Coca-Cola and Mackey’s parents, Christie and Curt Brungardt.
The University of Kansas is a major comprehensive research and teaching university. University Relations is the central public relations office for KU's Lawrence campus.
