Lineup announced for Chinese Film Festival

OVERLAND PARK — The Confucius Institute at the University of Kansas has announced the five films that will be shown during the 2011 Kansas City Chinese Film Festival.

The theme for the film festival is “Love and War: And the Courage Required for Each.”

April 2 — “Red Cliff” (2009, directed by John Woo)
April 9 — “Ocean Heaven” (2010, directed by Xiao Lu Xue)
April 16 — “If You Are the One” (2008, directed by Xiaogang Feng)
April 23 — “CJ7” (2008, directed by Stephen Chow)
April 30 — “In Love We Trust” (2007, directed by Xiaoshuai Wang)

All films will be screened at 10 a.m. at the Glenwood Theatre, 9575 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, and will be accompanied by bilingual introductions and post-screening discussions to explore the cultural, historical and social issues raised on the screen.

The program is funded in part by the Kansas Humanities Council, a nonprofit cultural organization promoting understanding of the history, traditions and ideas that shape lives and build community.
