LAWRENCE — Visual art students competing for scholarships will exhibit their works in a show starting May 1 at the University of Kansas.
The Department of Visual Art Student Scholarship Exhibition and Open Studio will feature art by more than 100 undergraduate and graduate students. Students who have been nominated to receive scholarships based on performance in their majors will present their works in the scholarship exhibition. The pieces will be on display on the third and fourth floors at the Art and Design Building.
The exhibition begins with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, on the fourth floor. During that time, the department will also host open studios of senior and graduate students’ spaces on all floors of the building (a map will be provided). The studios will be open to the public for May 1 only while the rest of the scholarship exhibition will continue through May 3, ending at 2 p.m.
A range of disciplines will be represented, including ceramics, drawing, expanded media, jewelry, metalsmithing, painting, printmaking, sculpture and textiles.
The exhibition and open studios are free and the public is welcome.
The Art and Design Building is at the northeast corner of 15th Street and Naismith Drive. Visitor parking is available at the Allen Fieldhouse Parking Garage, 1501 Irving Hill Road.
