Center for Service Learning announces Faculty Advisory Board, Faculty Fellow
LAWRENCE — The Center for Service Learning at the University of Kansas has created its first Faculty Advisory Board and installed its first Faculty Fellow.
The Faculty Advisory Board includes 11 faculty and staff members from the Lawrence campus.
“This core advisory team has a combination of experiences integrating service learning projects into their courses, connecting course curriculum with community development and designing unique and challenging learning opportunities for students through engaged pedagogy,” said Andi Witczak, director of the Center for Service Learning. “I am excited to work with this innovative and committed team as we continue to advance our mission of enriching the learning environment while teaching civic responsibility and strengthening our communities.”
The Faculty Fellow position is designed to deeply engage a faculty member in the service learning mission and provide the faculty member support toward developing a specialty service learning project.
Mary Banwart, associate professor of communication studies, will be the first Faculty Fellow. Banwart will work closely with the center on the design, outreach and implementation of the newly approved leadership studies certification as her specialty project for the semester. She will further work to advance the mission of the center by focusing on faculty development initiatives. Banwart will also chair the inaugural Faculty Advisory Board.
In addition to Banwart, the Faculty Advisory Board includes:
Raquel Alexander, assistant professor of business
Bob Basow, associate professor of journalism
Sarah Crawford-Parker, assistant to the provost
Jonathan Earle, associate professor of history
Marilu Goodyear, associate professor and chair, Department of Public Administration
Bonnie Johnson, assistant professor of urban planning
