Gallery to host graduate student art exhibitions

LAWRENCE — Five shows at the Art and Design Gallery at the University of Kansas feature work by students pursuing graduate degrees in the Department of Visual Art.

The MFA Student Exhibitions, which run through April 15, feature nine students who have balanced participation in regularly scheduled classes with their independent studio work that is regularly reviewed by their three faculty member Thesis Committee. This exhibition is part of the final departmental requirements for the visual art graduate degree.

MFA student exhibition dates:

— March 6-11: Safiya Carter-Thompson, textiles
— March 15-22: Todd Pospichal, expanded media, and Will Vannerson, sculpture
— March 27-April 1: Tim Dwyer, printmaking, and Eugenia Ortiz, textiles
— April 3-8: Rebecca Barton, metalsmithing, and Cody McLouth, painting
— April 10-15: Geoff Kunkler, ceramics, and David Platter, sculpture

The Department of Visual Art is one of the four departments in the School of the Arts, housed in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Following the graduate student exhibition, the gallery will host an undergraduate scholarship exhibition that will feature art created by students majoring in visual communication in the Department of Design. The exhibit runs April 17-22.

All listed exhibitions are free and open to the public.

The Art and Design Gallery is located on the third floor of the Art and Design Building, at the northeast corner of 15th Street and Naismith Drive. It is open 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday and 1 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Visitor parking is available at the Allen Fieldhouse Parking Garage, 1501 Irving Hill Road.
