Public memorial planned for dance professor Janet Hamburg
LAWRENCE — A public memorial service celebrating the life of University of Kansas professor of dance Janet Hamburg is set for 3 p.m. Saturday, April 2, in the Spencer Museum of Art auditorium.
Hamburg, an internationally known movement analyst and lecturer, died in September.
As a researcher and teacher, Hamburg specialized in therapeutic movement to help people facing movement challenges. She was especially involved with local and national Parkinson’s groups after developing an acclaimed exercise program for people with Parkinson’s disease, originally distributed internationally by the Parkinson's Disease Foundation in New York City and recommended by major Parkinson’s foundations.
The Janet Hamburg Dance Scholarship has been established at KU Endowment.
The memorial is sponsored by the Spencer museum and the Department of Dance in the School of the Arts.
The University of Kansas is a major comprehensive research and teaching university. University Relations is the central public relations office for KU's Lawrence campus.
